A Quick Update

The guy who contacted me through this web site – Rob – decided to call it quits with the young lady from Moscow - Melina. Rob came over and my wife called Melina and talked with her and then translated for her and Rob. There were just too many red flags for him to continue moving forward.

My wife called a few people and found 2 other single young Russian ladies locally here. We had them all over, Rob, Nina and Svetlana and introduced them. Things seem to go well all around and we all had a fun time. I will keep you posted on the outcome and give some more details later on.

Finally, A New Post!

Wow, it's been a while since I have posted! But it's definitely time to write something.
So many things have happened since my father-in-law passed away in April that have kept me busy. But to help celebrate this new posting, I have to admit I am a bit on the tipsy side.

A gentleman contacted me earlier today. He is starting the K-1 process with his fiance. He emailed me through this web site and gave me his phone number. By the way, I'd be happy to talk with any of you out there that have questions – but please don't be offended if I only email you back. I am pretty busy most of the time, but usually have time to email while at work. So anyway, he was from my area so I gave him a call. It's always interesting to hear another person's story about how they met their Russian wife. No details as of yet, but we'll get together here in the near future and visit.

And Yet Another Vodka Article…

Traditional Russian zakuski and vodka. Zakuski is a collection of different items that you eat when you are drinking vodka. It can be salted fish, tomatoes (I like pickled ones), cucumbers (with dill), chicken, mushrooms or maybe salads. But don't expect to be able to sip your vodka while eating. The rule is to drink the entire glass at once and to eat some zakuski after it. Don't try to drink only half of the glass – your fellow Russian friends will let you know that the glass must go down in its entirety, or you're disrespecting them.

Zakuski with your vodka

When the glasses are empty, they are immediately filled up for the next toast which is never ending. There is a toast for everything…

Another round of vodka please.

Be prepared to go the long haul. Something I have learned about Russians is that drinking vodka seems to be in their genes. They will almost always out drink you, so don't be offended if you find that you were the first to pass out!

In Loving Memory of Valentin Artemov 1933 – 2008

In Loving Memory of Valentin Artemov 1933 – 2008

My Father-in-law passed away Thursday morning. We had his funeral today and I gave the eulogy for him. Unfortunately, he had only been in the USA for a month. But he was able to spend his final month with his daughter and granddaughter. I think this was his driving force to getting to the USA and I am happy that he was able to fulfill his final dream of living here in the USA with his children.

He was a loving man and a pretty funny guy. We will miss him a lot, but I know he has been suffering for quite some time with numerous health problems to include cancer. I am sure he is in a far better place and wish him well on this new journey. Maybe someday, I will meet up with him again and we can sit down and drink a bottle of vodka. Until then, I bid you farewell until next time pop.

Russian Women

Yes, they are Russian. They are similar in every way to American women. But the slight differences in the way they look, the way they act, their personalities, the things they like to do and I am sure many other things is what makes them uniquely different. I can even say their attitude towards sex and money for the most part is different. Russian women love to dance. They don't even care if they have a partner. I have heard that there are 3 women to every man there. Tempting – is it not?

Why should you care about these things? Maybe you don't. But maybe you should.

Where else are you going to find a lady that can drink you under the table? I think vodka runs in their veins… My wife can sure put away some vodka. One night in Russia, I made the mistake of drinking with her father. The man was a drinking machine – he drank vodka, cognac, wine and whatever else was around. I tried my best to keep up with him. I paid for it though - I prayed to the porcelain god all night. He went to bed and got up in the morning with not even a headache. I will never forget that…

If you are not happy with your search for romance, take a chance and go to Russia. Not only will you meet a beautiful woman (or women…) but you will see what the former Soviet Empire is really like. Although many of the old Soviet markings and statues are disappearing, there are still many old communist things you can see. Having personally grown up during the cold war, it is really interesting to see these things. If you travel to Moscow, you will see many old Stalinist era buildings and of course the Kremlin and Red Square. This is what I did last October when I traveled to Russia. Very very interesting stuff to see. Take a chance and at least travel to Russia and see what it is all about. When I went the first time, I saw it as an adventure with nothing at all to lose. The worst thing that would happen was that I would get an exciting vacation to a country I had never seen. Hell, go for the genuine Russian Vodka and caviar. Trust me, it's worth the trip. You won't be disappointed.

Easter Today

It's Easter today. The in-laws like fish, so I offered to smoke fish today. Got some nice looking trout – they've never had trout in Russia. I actually smoke fish every couple of months. We really enjoy smoked fish, but I don't really care for the smoked fish that you purchase in the store. And the Russian store usually only has cold-smoked fish. Not a big fan of this type. I use a special recipe for the brine – dark rum, soy sauce, salt and water to soak the fish in. Turns out excellent. We're also having Olivia – a type of Russian potato salad, but better. I also threw together some of my special home made salsa. Notice the snow on the ground in the smoked fish picture. We had a bit of a spring snow storm yesterday. Kinda feels like Russia without all of the melting muddy mess.

We Have New USA Residents!

Well, they made it back to the USA last Monday evening, but not without some drama. I picked them up from the airport about 10:30pm. They ran into trouble several times throughout their trip.

It all started in Moscow when they tried to check in. The parents plane tickets had been canceled by Delta airlines. They had to repurchase their tickets right then and there. We are in the process of trying to get some sort of refund for that fiasco. The next problem that happened was with customs. When they went through customs in Atlanta, GA somehow their passports did not get stamped. What? How can you go through customs and not get your passport stamped? Well it happened and I am led to believe that it must happen quite frequently. Fortunately, we were able to straighten it out rather quickly at DIA in Denver. We made a special trip back to the Denver airport to have them processed in. Otherwise, their green cards would have been voided as well since they wouldn't have had proof that they came into the country. The customs officer was astounded that these 2 Russians walked through customs without giving their paperwork from the US Embassy and not getting their passports stamped. That's Homeland Security for you. Now I am really not convinced that they do a good job at all ... What's wrong with this picture?

USA Customs - Seems like they let anybody in.

But now it's all said and done. They were able to apply for the social security cards and all is well. They are starting to settle in and will move to their own place pretty soon.

Something to keep in mind is that when you bring your new fiancé or wife to the USA, she may want to move her parents eventually. Lena and I have been married for almost 7 years and the day finally came that they were coming. I can't really say much. My mother stayed with us on several occasions for months at a time. What I can say is that they are wonderful people and a lot of patience is and will be needed to help them get going here in the USA. Life is a bit different here, so they will need a lot of help learning the new ways.

Four Days Down, Three To Go

Well, it's been 4 days since she left. I have to admit that it's getting a little lonely here at home. We talk once a day about what's going on in Russia and things that are going on here at home. She says the infrastructure has changed a lot since our last trip to Ekaterinburg in 2004. Lots of modern buildings, lots of traffic.

Baltika 9 and a Chilupa. Dinner of champions!

I am looking forward to her return and to her parents arriving. We've put a lot of work into the house and we are anxious to see their surprise when they see it. It is much nicer than where they live in Russia.

The Wife's Parents

The wife is off to Russia this week. Her parents have been evicted from Russia for being capitalists. The KGB came to their house and gave them 30 days notice to get out of the country or be thrown into the gulag…

Good ole Lennin in Ekaterinburg

Ok, maybe not, but they are coming to the USA to live. They have sold everything and are moving here next week. But it must be a little un-nerving for them to move to another country, don't you think? Life will be good for them though. They will be in America and be close to their daughter and granddaughter. Their house will be about a 5 minute drive from us, so it should be good.

Ekaterinburg, Russia

Prices have skyrocketed everywhere in Russia (I talked a bit about this when I went to Moscow in October). Do to this, they have gotten an excellent price for their apartment in Ekaterinburg. So they should be fine here moneywise.

We have spent the last 3 weeks getting their house ready for them. I had it rented out and it was left a mess. But it is looking pretty good at this point with only a few things left for me to accomplish while Lena is in Russia this week. We’ve managed to furnish most of it and it will be enough to get them started.

Guess this means a reason for a party!

Dating Statistics of Russian Women

Typically the more Russian women you write to, the better your chances are to find the woman of your dreams that has the chemistry flowing for both of you. But, I cannot say that she won't be the first one you meet. In my case it was. But I would say it is always good advice if you plan to travel to a 'Former Soviet Union' country to have options when you go!

Women of Russia and the FSU

Unlike men, who often think universally and tend to generalize information, women are more personal in their approach to finding answers and Russian women are no different. You'll find thousands of beautiful Russian women profiles and just recently, videos have become popular. Here are some statistics relating to Russian women participating in online Russian dating:

1 - 79% of Russian women seeking marriage to foreign men have never been married.

2 - 64% are younger than 30 years of age.

3 - 90% of Russian women have been educated in a university with one, possibly two degrees.

4 - 69% of the women have no children.

5 - Most Russian women work or are going to school, but only 25% of them have jobs that are associated with their degree. Typically, they end up working for the highest paying job that they are able to find in order to survive.

6 - Why are Russian women interested in foreign men?

- 49% claimed that they are tired of Russian men – too many unpleasant experiences.

- 58% believe that foreign men are kinder and more caring, more family-oriented and more organized and serious in their life decisions.

- 37% believe that international marriage will help them improve the quality of their lives and their future child's life.

- 93% will marry only when they know for sure they love the man.

7 - When describing the type of man they are looking for, they used the following words:

- 86% used the word "kind"

- 68% used the word "caring"

- 59% would like to find a man who is "family-oriented" and loves children

- 31% are looking for physically strong and fit men, who like sports

- 32% are seeking "serious" men

- 6% would like to have "practically thinking" husbands

- 6% would like to meet handsome and charming men

- 0% mentioned the word "sexy"

These figures were compiled from a survey of the top five Russian women dating sites. It is up to you to decide what they mean.
