It’s Labor Day Weekend

Well, winter is coming soon now, the children are back to school and summer vacations have come to an end. Another summer has come and gone and it is time to start thinking about Christmas. What? Well maybe not just yet.

We sponsored 3 young ladies from the Ural State University this summer. They study international relations and came to the USA to work and improve their English speaking skills over the summer. They will be leaving in about 2 weeks and heading back to Ekaterinburg and the university. We know them as Dasha, Kate and Irina. Dasha stays with us and Kate and Irina rent a room not too far away.

It’s been very enlightening for these three young Russians. The real USA is nothing like they imagined. But is any place you’ve never been to really what you expected? Probably not. Typically when you read and watch tv, you only hear or see a small piece of something. Take for instance Russia. It was quite a shock to me the first time I went to Russia. I spent a couple days in Moscow before heading to Ekaterinburg. Moscow was almost everything that was described to me in my research prior to traveling there. People looked unhappy, never smiled and it was colder than a witch’s you know what (I went in February). One thing I didn’t expect was that I would stick out in a crowd by simply being myself. I didn’t even have to speak for any Russian to know I was an American - my clothing and smile gave me away every time. Long story short, sellers always tried to sell me their best items for a premium price. What does this have to do with 3 young ladies visiting the USA? Nothing. Just making a point that things are not always as you would expect. And if you were to visit Moscow today, it is a much nicer atmosphere and people are nicer in general than they were in 2001 - they even smile.

So, let’s move on. Let’s drink some vodka and toast something. Let’s party. Let’s do something out of the ordinary. Let’s use the law of attraction and get something we want - maybe a Russian wife for you. Let’s have some fun, travel and learn about our comrades. Let’s get off our asses and get going and do something exciting in our lives - life passes us by way to fast to just sit around and be lonely or miserable. Do something man!
