Beer Rescue

Well, I don’t know how I missed this one! Apparently back in January 2004, Russian troops rescued 10 tons of beer… Sounds like this was an important mission. Apparently while trying to cross the frozen Irtysh river, near the Siberian city of Omsk, the truck sank. The two drivers were able to escape, but lost the beer.

A rescue team was established with 6 divers and 10 additional workers as well as a T-72 tank.

The beer truck was located, pulled over to a sizable hole in the ice, and the beer was retrieved. Whew! That was a close one. Just think if all of that beer that could have been lost. Unfortunately, the beer truck was not able to be retrieved.

The Rosar brewery in Omsk, part of the Interbrew Belgian group, said it took the beer back without problems.

Since the temperatures were about -27 degrees Celsius (-17F degrees), the brewery notified Tass that the beer was still in good condition and that the brewery sold the beer as a rarity, but with a discount.
