Russian Wives at Red October

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Etc.

The snow just doesn’t seem to stop this winter here in Colorado. It is a strange year here for snow. We who don’t live in the mountains just keep getting pounded every weekend for the last 5 weekends and it looks as if we are gonna get it again this next weekend. I suppose it’s nothing a few shots of vodka can’t fix. Maybe to invest in a banya (Russian sauna). Then we can sweat, drink vodka, run through the snow half naked and beat each other with freshly cut birch twigs. Actually, this doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

I spent the afternoon trying to clear some of our 3 foot high snow drift out of the driveway. I had this great idea to run warm water on the thing and help melt it away. Well, warm water does melt it, but it creates a hole and then the water just runs underneath. I managed to create a nice river under the ice and it still looks the same. Although, I did scrape away some 5 feet of ice at the end of the driveway so I can pull the car in a little bit farther. Guess it feels more like Russia for my wife. I always wanted her to feel more at home anyway. Fortunately for her I have kept up with clearing half the driveway so she can get her car in and out of the garage. Since my car does not have to move right now, I dont need to get the driveway cleared right away. I am in the process of rebuilding the engine. I am using my son’s car while he is in the Middle East. But nevertheless, I am tired of all the snow in the driveway.

Feeling a little frosty?

I guess this is a good reminder of how the weather is in Russia most of the winter where my wife is from, Yekaterinburg. I have only visited there during the winter, so this is really not even the same. It is usually a much harder winter there. I guess that if you spend your life there, you don’t think much of it. You just know that this is the way it is.
