Something I have noticed in the last 15 years or so is that here in the USA, Americans have become quite sue happy. What I mean is that millions of lawsuits are filed yearly here in United States. Why has this happened? When I was a kid, people used to talk things out. Today, they just file a lawsuit. My personal opinion is that lawyers have facilitated this in order to generate more business for themselves. Look around, in the phonebook, on the internet. You will find that there are an excess amount of attorneys out there fighting for your business. But this is my own opinion. You of course can form your own opinions.

Some people are just greedy

I had the pleasure of spending a day in the courtroom with my wife. She was being sued for something she had nothing to do with. Did I mention that she had absolutely nothing to do with it? This woman, Michelle Chandler (Princess Publications LLC) decided to sue my wife and another party that we had sold our former business to last year. It was plainly obvious that we had nothing to do with that business anymore, yet Michelle Chandler named my wife in the lawsuit. Hmm, something doesn’t add up here.

Well, the judge was smart enough to see that my wife was innocent. Unfortunately, Michelle Chandler and Princess Publications LLC won the judgment anyway against the other party. The good news was that she only received a refund and was not awarded any damages at all. She won only because the company got fed up with her and only finished 95 percent of the job. Guess she was very difficult to work with.

Well, the point of all this is that I lost a day of my life to Michelle Chandler and Princess Publications LLC that I can never get back. The positive thing that came about is that my wife was found innocent and I learned today that when you are in business for yourself, no matter how hard you try to please all of the people all of the time, there is always someone out there that you can’t please. When we were in business for ourselves, we used to bend over backwards to make people happy. Unfortunately in the end, that is what really caused us to sell. We worked so hard pleasing everyone so they would ALWAYS give us positive feedback that the stress level went through the roof.

So, is it really worth it to go into business for yourself? That’s a question to answer for yourself. Yes, I would have no regrets to do it again. I enjoyed the freedom. My wife would just prefer working for someone else and let them stress out.

I also learned that it is not a big deal to go to small claims court, but be prepared if you lose. When you leave it all up to the judge, you just never know which way he is leaning.
