Comfort

What is comfort? Well, I have been standing outside in the cold this morning and that is definitely not it.

On the other hand, comfort is extremely important to a Russian woman. She wants to feel loved, secure, cared for and comfortable all at the same time.

But, let’s talk about creature comforts. The little things we take for granted here in the US.

Restaurants for example. In Russia, most restaurants are not open till 7-8 PM, but they stay open very late.

There is really no such thing as “Fast Food”. Yes, in Moscow, they have McDonalds and I believe there is a KFC. But Russians don’t know fast food as we know it. So, there are no drive throughs either.

Their best toilet paper is rougher than the generic brand at the local supermarket (you could probably write on it).

Toilet Paper?

Toilet Paper?

Russians really don’t have supermarkets. They have small neighborhood shops they shop daily or several times a week for food.

Most Russians don’t own a car. They walk and ride various types of public transportation. The first time I went to Russia, I thought Lena was hitch-hiking for a ride. I almost had a coronary. I later confronted her about it and found out that in Russia, any car is allowed to be a Taxi. If they stop, they bargain with you on the price to your destination if they want to go that way.

These are but the tip of the iceberg. We American’s have life much easier than Russians do. The everyday comforts of our lives are luxuries in Russia.
